Changing brain circuits by design

Neuromodulation delivers energy – electrical, magnetic, or ultrasonic – into targeted brain circuits to change their patterns of activity. It's used to treat disorders whose symptoms arise from those circuits, and sometimes it works astonishingly well.

But we can't say in advance what it will do for a given person. Targets are chosen from a patient's diagnostic label rather than from what they actually experience, and once treatment begins there's no direct readout of how the circuit responded. When a treatment fails, we can't say why.

Arbor is building what it will take to change that. Instruments that intervene in brain circuits and measure how they respond. Repeated intervention and measurement in the same individuals over months. Models that map symptoms to circuits, and tell us where and how to intervene next. The first studies are underway.

Arbor Neuroscience is a Focused Research Organization, part of Convergent Research. It's the new name for Forest Neurotech, whose ultrasound platform is the starting point for this work.
